History
Inverness was not a core site in the Post Office/BT network (nearby Daviot provided telephony links for Inverness) but in 1981 Grampian Television opened a studio which required a vision circuit to their main site at Aberdeen. According to a BT network diagram dated 1984 this was achived by a radio (assumed SHF) link from Inverness exchange to Rosemarkie, and from there via the existing network.
As Daviot was certainly in operation by 1981 this would seem to confirm segregation between television and telephony links routed to Rosemarkie and Daviot respectively. Ofcom data suggests a 6 GHz link still operational between Inverness and Rosemarkie. together with local links.
An aerial view of the exchange building reveals dishes on the exchange roof - these can be seen from Chapel Street.
