History
Carmel was not included in Post Office/BT site lists but the BBC transmitter entered service in July 1971 (initially for BBC2) and most likely used a Post Office link at that time. BBC1 was added in August 1972 but ITV not until May 1973. We understand the ITV program was received off-air from Presely (which also entered service for UHF television in 1973).
BT network diagrams from the mid-1980s show Carmel was SHF fed for the BBC channels only (at Presely the SHF feeds were for ITV/C4 only). It's likely the BBC programme feeds used a dish on the broadcast mast, with equipment accommodated in the main tramsmitter building. The BBC distribution contract with BT ended in 1995 and it is unlikely Carmel was used for telephony purposes.
