History
Bredon Hill, together with Cinderford, provided a link between Birmingham and Bristol however it appears this originally had fairly low capacity. A 1970 Network Planning document comments that capacity will be restricted "because of tower planning difficulties". It is likely the route entered service in the early 1970s once the new tower at Purdown was in use.
A planning application confirms the guyed mast at Bredon Hill was replaced by the current "Type 8A" tower in the 1980s. A similar upgrade appears to have been made at Cinderford, presumably to allow greater capacity. By 2008 five large dishes faced each way - suggesting use of all the available bands, possibly with height diversity - but it's likely these were cleared soon after as the trunk network switched to fibre.
