History

Neatishead was one of the main sites used for the Linesman/Mediator Radar system from the late 1960s. The Post Office provided a link to the control at West Drayton and another for the RX12874 "Passive Detection" system to allow use of the "High Speed Aerial" at Staxton Wold. The links from Neatishead were expected to enter service in mid-1967 which involved the use of a temporary installation at Stoke Holy Cross.

The Post Office installation at Neatishead appears to have used a building of RAF design (similar to Boulmer) and a short tower with two dishes - possibly due to the two distinct links required. The Linesman/Mediator system was superceded in the mid-1980s. It is unlikely the SHF link carried any other traffic so the facility would have closed at the same time.

The building is still in place, next to the western boundary of the RAF site, but the tower has been removed.
