History

The BT site at Brown Clee Hill (situated on Abdon Burf) was the subject of a planning application in 1984 "Erection of an Intermediate Microwave Radio Station" and therefore uses the then standard "Type 8A" tower and the newer form of building with corrugated metal roof (here clad in brick as a condition of the planning permission).

The site linked with the new installation at Bonnylands, an upgraded tower at Albrighton and to the main Birmingham tower. As part of the same 1980s upgrade new sites were added at Fazakerley (Liverpool) and Llangollen with a new route running through a combination of new and existing sites apparently providing a link from the Liverpool area to Birmingham and another between Birmingham and Madley.

Viewed from the south - there appear to be only two large dishes facing Llangollen but three towards Bonnylands and five to Birmingham. This suggests two independent routes shared the tower.

A similar perspective but with the main dishes removed.
